Things to note before porting

  • If you have recently ported your number to the current telecom network, and you are again trying to make a new porting request, the porting request will fail and you won’t receive any UPC message.

How much time does it take to port Jio to Airtel and vice versa?

The whole process takes approximately five to seven working days to complete.

During this time users can use their existing prepaid or postpaid connection. Upon successful completion of the process, the existing SIM will stop working and you will have to insert a new SIM from the ported company.

For example, if you have ported JIO to Airtel, then JIO SIM will stop working and you have to insert the Airtel SIM(with the same JIO number).

The same thing happens when you port Airtel to JIO i.e., the existing Airtel SIM won’t work and you have to use the JIO SIM(with the same Airtel number).

How do I know whether the Jio to Airtel porting process is complete?

Once you’ve submitted your porting request, you’ll generally receive a confirmation message from your new service provider within a few minutes indicating that the process has been started. However, it can sometimes take up to 24 hours for the porting to be completed successfully.

If you wish to check the status of your porting request, you can contact Jio or Airtel customer care depending on the operator you have ported to. They will be able to tell you whether the process is complete or not.

Wrapping it up

In India, it is also known that jio kind of brought an internet revolution. Earlier I remember, 1GB of Aircel internet used to cost around Rs. 160, and once jio came up with the free data plan and lower-cost data plans, all the other players were eliminated from the race.

The presence of Airtel as a competitor brand also doesn’t allow reliance to take the customers for granted and the market monopoly still lies evenly poised between the two big names with none winning it. This competition benefits the consumers, thus leading to a contributing factor to the growth of the country.

What is UPC?

Unique Porting Code, also known as UPC, is a code used to uniquely identify products and services that are available for porting. When customers port their phone number to a new service provider, the new service provider will need the UPC to process the porting request. This code is available for a limited time only (5 days) and can only be used once.

What to do when the UPC expires?

As I said UPC is time bound and expires after five days of generation. If for some reason this UPC expires, you can make a new porting request and a new UPC will be generated for you to port Jio to Airtel or to port Airtel to Jio.

What are the charges to port Jio to Airtel?

The porting process is completely free. You only need to pay for the recharge plans/packs
